This year, the Kansas City Business Journal released its first list recognizing LGBTQ-owned businesses. The list is comprised of the top 25 Kansas City businesses that are majority or fully owned by a person or persons identifying as a member of the LGBTQ+ community. By highlighting these companies, the Kansas City Business Journal is expanding the coverage and exposure of LGBTQ-owned businesses in the area. Kansas City was also recognized in 2021 for receiving a perfect score from the Human Rights Campaign’s Municipal Equality Index – where LGBTQ+ equality in terms of municipal laws, policies, and services are surveyed. Of all the U.S. cities surveyed, only 110 of them received a perfect score.
