Band of Angels is a Kansas City not-for-profit that works to make musical instruments and education accessible to all KC kids regardless of their family’s financial situation.

As a musician herself, KC’s Band of Angels’ mission resonates deeply with Ashley. Her hope is that all children interested in music have the opportunity to pursue that passion.

“I love music. I grew up in a very musical household, and I am raising my children the same way,” she says. “Band of Angels is a really important and cool local organization. They are incredibly passionate about their mission, and it’s important to me to help support them, because every kid should have access to music.”

It is known that children who receive music education benefit from improved self-confidence, motivation to attend school, and better academic performance across the board. Despite the benefits, school districts often don’t have the funds to ensure equal access to music education for all.

Music is not just part of a well-rounded education; it’s integral to its very foundation. Research shows that children who receive music education experience a boost in self-confidence, motivation to attend school, and better academic performance across the board. Despite this, a distressing number of school districts are unable to fund music education adequately—or at all!

Working with school administrators and music directors to identify students in need, Band of Angels helps gather musical instruments that allow those children to participate in band and orchestra classes. Founded in 2010 through a partnership with WDAF-TV Fox 4 and Meyer Music, their initial goal was to collect 50 instruments. Instead, they donated more than 300! Since then, Band of Angels has put over 3,700 instruments into the hands of Kansas City students in over 60 area school districts. They’ve also raised $500,000 to help students attend summer music camps.

“Band of Angels is incredibly passionate about their mission, and it’s important to me to help support that mission,” Ashley adds.
